Show 01 __ The Pre-Show Podcast!
In this episode, DCRE Labs presents an audio walk-through of the draft website for DLL.ADA-PODCAST.COM. The sample site will form the basis for the websites for the Spanish version (dll-spanish.ada-podcast.com, dll-espanol.ada-podcast.com) as well as the ASL video version (dll-asl.ada-podcast.com)
Draft DLL Podcast Website
Hello and welcome to the demonstration podcast for your new website.
Today's website will be focused on the current draft of the
Disability Law Lowdon podcast available http://dll.ada-podcast.com
The main purpose of this podcast is to serve as a place holder for
the actual introductory podcast, which will be recorded in the very
near future.
So, if you'd like to following along with the bouncing mouse pointer,
point your web browser to http://ddd.ada-podcast.com
As requested, the look and feel of this website is consistent with the
model site locate at http://ada-audio.org. As you can see, the background
color, borders and shading are consistent between the two sites. However
the logo banner at the top has been modified to reflect the current project name.
The logo was developed as a placeholder graphic which can be used across
the English, Spanish and ASL websites alike. If another graphic is
available and more appropriate, the images can be easily exchanged. In
the Spanish and ASL versions, the banner will have the same look and
feel, though the text reference to the right of the logo will have the
addendum of "en Espanol" or "in ASL" as appropriate.
The website offers two navigation areas: a horizontal bar under the main
logo and a vertical bar down the left hand side, again maintaining the
consistency with the protype website.
The horizontal bar provides quick navigation throughout the website,
lettying those familiar with the website to quickly access the current show
or previous shows (that is, the core content of the site) as well as returning to
the main page and/or providing feedback. The "subscribe" button is also
placed here for new visitors to the site.
The vertical bar down the left side provides both navigational and informational
links. The "news" link can be used to announce upcoming events or changes
to the site, podcast schedule, etc. The "Site Navigation" links provide
information specific to this podcast series (and thus will change slightly
for the Spanish and ASL versions.) The "Project Sites" section highlights the
multiple podcasts as a central project. The partners section shows the two main
stakeholder agencies or the project. However, we may want to put another
link under this section to a "sponsor" page, which could contain a more
complete description of the various funding sources, projects, federal agencies, etc.
As one of my mentors once pointed out on an NSF grant, thanking people costs
nothing. Finally, the disclaimers section handles the copyright issues for the
content (both podcast and website).
The footer section across the bottom can provide
additional links and disclaimers as needed.
All of the items described so far will stay consistent across the pages
and have been designed for accessibility (larger link buttons to
accomdate users with reduced motor skills, images and links have additional
tags/information, etc.)
as we conclude this introduction to the draft website, there are a few things you may
want to review and comment on before we promote this codeset to the other two websites.
1) Review the "About Us" section for accuracy and completeness.
2) Review the "Show Hosts" section - This section will change for the Spanish and ASL
website but will retain the consistent look and feel.
3) Review the "Comment" page (via the "Feedback" button on the top navigation bar)
for accuracy. We may also want to include additional contact information
(phone, fax, TTY, etc>) and update/remove the DCRE labs support email.
Finally, the pulldown list in the "feedback" section will be tailored to
the project websites. We should determine who should receive the comments
and feedback emails once we are in production.
Other than that, this concludes the pre-podcast intro show. Our next
step in the test phase will save this audio file, process it through
the DCRE Audio systems and post it to the website. As part of that
process, the "past shows" links and the RSS-feed should be updated and
revised. if there are any problems, chances are we've already fixed them
by the time you had a chance to read this so.... thanks for listening
and please feel free to let us know if you have any questions, comments
or concerns.
Thanks again.
The functionality of the horizontal menu is
designed for navigation, providing a consistent location for navigating
back to the main
Once recorded, the audio content is sent to DCRE Labs for processing
and posting to the website.
